I bought this rain shell glove at REI.

Each of those gloves has no lining, and is waterproof. It works great by itself, or it could be layered over knit glove liners similar to the ones shown below.

Those little rubberized dots on the palm and fingers are supposed to help with gripping. Unfortunately, there is no rubber inside the glove, so the material slips somewhat against my skin. Actually, I think most glove liners don't have any rubber-like material anyway.
Those knit gloves are made of a synthetic material. They work OK by themselves in the rain; even if they soak through, they act like a wetsuit and retain some heat.
